Apple is gearing up for its 2026 Worldwide Developers Conference, where it will unveil the highly anticipated iOS 27. While this promises a host of exciting new features, there is a caveat for some users – the inevitable exclusion of older iPhones. Rumors have been circulating about the upcoming iOS 27, with speculations about major Siri enhancements, generative AI tools in Photos, advanced visual intelligence capabilities, and the ability to create custom passes in Apple Wallet.

Unfortunately, not all iPhones will be able to fully utilize the new features of iOS 27. Older devices may be left behind, so it’s essential to know which iPhones will be compatible with the latest software update. According to a report from Weibo-based leaker Instant Digital, the following iPhones are expected to support iOS 27:

– All iPhone 17 models (17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and 17e)
– iPhone Air
– All iPhone 16 models (16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, and 16e)
– All iPhone 15 models (15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, and 15 Pro Max)
– All iPhone 14 models (14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max)
– All iPhone 13 models (13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max)
– All iPhone 12 models (12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max)
– iPhone SE (2022)

Surprisingly, the entire iPhone 12 lineup will still be compatible with iOS 27, making them the oldest iPhones to support the new software update. However, this could potentially be the final major update for these devices, prompting users to consider upgrading to newer models.

The most significant revelation from these rumors is that the iPhone 11 will no longer receive software updates, along with the 2020 iPhone SE. The iPhone 11, which debuted in 2019, marked the introduction of the Pro and Pro Max versions, while the second-generation iPhone SE was released in March 2020. Despite no longer receiving major updates, these models are likely to receive security updates for a few more years through iOS 26 point releases.

For users with iPhone 12 or newer models, iOS 27 will still be accessible, albeit with some features exclusive to the latest iPhones. It’s important to note that these details are based on rumors and not confirmed by Apple. While it’s probable that support for the iPhone 11 and 2020 iPhone SE will be discontinued, official confirmation from Apple is awaited. Users with older models should start considering their upgrade options in case their devices are no longer supported.
