Recent reports indicate that numerous Pixel phone users are facing troubling challenges with their eSIMs.

While we wouldn’t say that Google’s Pixel smartphone lineup is in dire straits, the Pixel 10 and its cohorts have been grappling with various bugs lately.

Android Authority has highlighted the latest concern, noting a significant number of Pixel owners voicing complaints about persistent eSIM issues.

Across X, Reddit, and Google’s support forums, many Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 users have shared instances where their eSIMs suddenly disconnect.

Some users have reported the need for a phone reset every few days to restore mobile network connectivity, which is far from ideal.

Others have faced challenges in transitioning between eSIM providers despite having unlocked Pixel phones, which should allow them to choose network operators.

Potential causes and solutions

It’s important to note that these issues seem to specifically affect the eSIM component of recent Pixel phones, which involves virtual mobile accounts without the need for a physical SIM card. Traditional methods don’t seem to have similar issues.

Due to the varied nature of these issues related to eSIM usage, pinpointing the exact cause is challenging. However, Google has acknowledged the problem on its Issue Tracker, indicating ongoing investigation.

A Reddit post has highlighted a potential cause suggested by the developer community. Some developers believe that manually flashing Android versions could lead to a memory error, potentially causing the eSIM problems.

If you prefer to err on the side of caution, sticking to Google’s regular over-the-air updates until a resolution is found might be advisable.
