Relic Entertainment and Blackbird Interactive Announce Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition

Relic Entertainment and Blackbird Interactive have announced the upcoming release of Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition, a modernized version of the classic 2006 real-time strategy game.

Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition is currently in development for Windows PC (Steam) and is scheduled for release in the fall.

About Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition

The Definitive Edition of Company of Heroes includes the base game, along with the Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor expansions, all in one complete package. Players can expect to enjoy visceral World War II storytelling with three cinematic campaigns, four unique armies, and over 50 multiplayer and skirmish maps.

Originally released in 2006, Company of Heroes redefined the RTS genre, blending squad-based tactics, environmental destruction, and cinematic presentation. The modernization of this classic game aims to deliver an enhanced experience for today’s hardware while maintaining the original game’s gritty atmosphere and dynamic gameplay.

Updates in the Definitive Edition

The Definitive Edition features upgraded unit and environment textures, improved world lighting and shadows, and quality-of-life gameplay improvements such as vehicle reversing and automatic unit reinforcement at the HQ structure. The AI has been enhanced for a more challenging experience, with a new Ruthless AI difficulty option for veteran players.

Additionally, the game has been upgraded to a 64-bit platform to support modern systems and is compatible with a wide range of community-created mods. The HUD and screen layout have been adjusted for modern widescreen viewing, and the UI and controls have been modernized for a smoother gameplay experience.

Content in the Definitive Edition

The Definitive Edition includes three full-length campaigns and three single-player stories, offering players a comprehensive WWII experience from different perspectives. Players can engage in co-op and custom games with up to eight players, choosing from four unique factions and enjoying various modes and maps for endless replayability.
