While Google is rolling out Android 17 to early users, Samsung is also developing its latest mobile operating system version, One UI 9. The beta version is already accessible and will soon be released to all newer Samsung Galaxy device owners.

One of the notable additions in One UI 9 is a new widget that provides users with a quick view of their current internet connection speed. Previously, Samsung devices relied on third-party apps for this information, but now Samsung aims to offer it in-house, as reported by Sammobile.

How the new display functions

Samsung devices will now display real-time internet speed in the top right corner of the status bar, showcasing both upload and download speeds.

This feature works seamlessly with both mobile data and Wi-Fi connections, providing accurate speed measurements, although it does not indicate signal strength.

This enhancement could be particularly beneficial for Samsung Galaxy smartphone users, eliminating the need for separate apps or web tools to check internet speed.

Obtaining the feature

Presently, the internet speed display feature is exclusive to One UI 9 beta testers, specifically for Galaxy S26 series users. However, wider accessibility is anticipated upon the official release in July.

It is essential to note that while this feature is part of Samsung’s offerings, users will need to install the Good Lock app from either the Samsung App Store or Google Play Store to access it.

The Good Lock app offers various tailored features for Galaxy smartphones, but users must actively opt to install it as it is not preloaded.

If you are already a One UI 9 beta tester and have the Good Lock app, simply open the app and select the Quick Star extension. Once installed, navigate to the ‘Visibility of Indicator Icons’ option, then proceed to ‘Network Speed’ and enable this feature.
