Apple Invites Update: Enhancing Event Collaboration with Co-Hosting Support

Apple Invites 1.9 party cohosting hero

Apple has experienced significant success with Apple Invites, a party planning app launched just 16 months ago. In a short span of time, it has received nine feature updates, demonstrating a pace comparable to Apple Sports.

This year alone, Apple has already released two major updates. In March, version 1.7 brought improvements to the countdown widget, followed by the more substantial version 1.8 update in April, which introduced iMessage integration, Image Playground backgrounds, manual guest lists, and more.

The latest update, version 1.9, arrives just in time for graduation parties, summer barbecues, ice cream socials, and various other events. The standout feature this time is co-hosting, allowing up to five co-hosts to collaborate on event management.

While the specifics of how co-hosting functions are not extensively detailed in Apple’s update notes, the feature offers flexibility with a few limitations to be mindful of:

  1. Event creators must have an iCloud+ account, but co-hosts only need an Apple Account.
  2. An Apple Account is required for co-hosts for security purposes.
  3. Co-hosts cannot be added during event creation; they must first be invited as regular guests and then upgraded to co-hosts after accepting the invite.
  4. Co-hosts can be reverted to guests at any time.
  5. Co-hosting functions are accessible on both the Apple Invites app and web platform.
  6. Co-hosts have comprehensive event management capabilities, including managing the guest list, invite settings, description, and event cancellation (which can be restored by the host or another co-host).
  7. Co-hosts cannot remove the original creator from the event, nor can they add a Shared Album or Apple Music playlist due to account linkage restrictions.

One notable advantage is that co-hosting works seamlessly on the web, and co-hosts simply need a free Apple Account, which can be created by anyone, even non-Apple users.

In addition to the co-hosting feature, Apple Invites 1.9 introduces new event backgrounds to enhance various gatherings and enables hosts to make the invited guest list visible to all attendees.

Apple Invites 1.9 is available as a free download on the App Store, allowing users to accept invites and now co-host events at no extra cost. Hosts require an iCloud+ subscription, which can be any plan, including the $0.99 50 GB tier. Apple Music playlists function like shared playlists, allowing subscribers to listen to full songs while others have access to previews.
