Enhanced Software Support for Samsung Galaxy Watches

Samsung’s latest Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 come equipped with One UI Watch 9 based on Wear OS 7. While Samsung did not highlight any significant changes in the software during their unveiling, there is a notable improvement in the form of extended software support.

Rather than focusing on flashy new watch faces or AI-powered health features, the key upgrade lies in the promise of software support. Both the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 now offer an impressive five years of OS support.

This commitment to software support is reflected on the watch’s official page, which confirms support until 31 July 2031. This represents a one-year extension compared to previous models like the Galaxy Watch 8, ensuring that users of the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 can enjoy new software versions until 2031, potentially including Wear OS 12.

While the performance of the watches in five years remains to be seen, Samsung’s confidence is evident with the inclusion of the Snapdragon Wear Elite processor and its own customized Wear OS skin.

Interestingly, Samsung did not emphasize this extended software support during their busy Unpacked keynote, despite it being a standout feature. With increasing prices in the tech market, including these two devices, the extended software support could play a pivotal role in consumers’ purchasing decisions.
