Apple Unveils Exciting Plans for iPhone 18 and Foldable Devices at Sept. 9 Event

Apple has shown a fondness for the number nine in recent years, with the announcement of the iPhone 18 Pro launch event scheduled for September 9, 2026. The event, named “Surprise and Shine,” is set to take place on Wednesday at 10 a.m. PT, as per Apple’s tradition. The event details are already available on Apple’s Events webpage and YouTube.

Interestingly, this date aligns with the previous two fall events that also took place on September 9. This consistency is unusual for Apple, which previously broke tradition by holding the “Glow Time” iPhone event on a Monday in 2024, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the original Apple Watch announcement. However, the event only saw a modest update to the Apple Watch Series 10, disappointing some who expected an “Apple Watch X” anniversary edition alongside the iPhone 16 lineup.

Last year’s “Awe-Dropping” event followed a more traditional Tuesday schedule, unveiling the iPhone 17 lineup, the new iPhone Air, and three new Apple Watch models. Apple typically holds its September events on Tuesdays, occasionally moving to a Wednesday after a long weekend or to avoid significant dates like September 11.

This year, with Labor Day falling on September 7, Wednesday, September 9 is the likely choice for Apple’s iPhone event. While the company usually opens pre-orders on the Friday after the event, this year presents a unique situation with September 11. Given the significance of the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Apple may adjust its pre-order date accordingly.

Anticipated reveals at the event include the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro, the long-awaited foldable iPhone (“iPhone Ultra”), a new Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, a rumored home hub, and possibly the AirPods 5. Production delays may impact the availability of certain products, such as the foldable iPhone, potentially limiting its launch to the US initially.
