Rumors suggest that a new Apple TV set-top box is on the horizon, likely to be unveiled at tomorrow’s “Surprise and Shine” event alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, a foldable iPhone, and two new Apple Watch models. The current Apple TV 4K is almost four years old, making an update long overdue. Apple’s history of updating its set-top box has been inconsistent, with the longest gap being 44 months between the first and second-generation Apple TV 4K models. The latest reports hint at a more powerful Apple TV 4K in the works, although the design is expected to remain unchanged.

Since the introduction of tvOS with the fourth-generation Apple TV in 2015, Apple has used A-series chips from the iPhone lineup. However, the Apple TV chips have lagged behind the latest iPhone models. The upcoming Apple TV 4K is rumored to feature either an A19 or an A19 Pro chip, a significant upgrade from the current A15 Bionic chip. This new chip will bring enhanced gaming capabilities and Apple Intelligence with Siri AI to the Apple TV 4K.

The A19 Pro chip offers 12 GB of RAM, allowing for more advanced Siri AI features compared to the A19 chip. Both chips will provide a performance boost to the Apple TV 4K, with the A19 Pro featuring a higher-end GPU and faster memory bandwidth. It is expected that Apple will use “binned” versions of the A19 or A19 Pro chip in the new Apple TV 4K, similar to the current model powered by the A15 chip.
