Rapid Sell-Out: Apple Watch Bands fly off shelves before highly anticipated 2026 Event

Apple enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the upcoming “Surprise and Shine” event, where Apple is expected to unveil the latest Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. However, one surprise that may not be in store is a new Apple Watch SE.

The Apple Watch SE, Apple’s entry-level wearable, has followed a rather sporadic update schedule. The Apple Watch SE was introduced in 2020 alongside the Apple Watch Series 6, followed by the Apple Watch SE 2 in 2022, and the most recent Apple Watch SE 3 last year.

Given this pattern, it seems unlikely that Apple will launch a new Apple Watch SE 4 at the event. Nevertheless, a recent discovery on Apple’s website by MacRumors suggests that there may be a surprise in store. As of now, the Apple Watch SE 3 appears to be unavailable for purchase on the Apple Store online.

A similar situation is observed with the Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3, although this is less unexpected. It is uncommon for Apple to halt sales of current inventory so close to an event – for instance, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are still available for purchase. Therefore, this may not necessarily indicate upcoming changes.

Upon closer inspection of both the US and Canadian Apple Stores, it appears that the unavailability is primarily related to Apple Watch bands rather than the watch models themselves.

For those familiar with purchasing an Apple Watch online, the process involves selecting various options before checking availability. Factors such as finish, size, model (GPS or GPS + Cellular), and different bands and sizes must be chosen before shipping times or pickup availability are displayed.

Amidst numerous permutations, most selections show as “Unavailable,” while a few still offer delivery this week or in-store pickup. Notably, less popular special edition bands like the Pride Edition Sport Band and Unity Rhythm Sport Band, along with the medium/large gold Milanese Loop, are still accessible. Special edition Solo Loops are also available in the US, though unavailable in the Canadian store.

The potential reason behind this shift could be Apple’s preparation to introduce a new range of bands alongside the upcoming Apple Watch models. Given that special edition bands are unlikely to be replaced, they may remain available post-event while other designs are phased out.

Despite speculation, any new bands introduced are likely to focus on style and patterns rather than revolutionary features like a new attachment system or sensor-equipped bands. While rumors have circulated about such innovations, concrete evidence is scarce for this year. Unless Apple announces an Apple Watch SE 4, compatibility with older models will necessitate the continued sale of existing bands.

A significant redesign for a new band attachment system likely won’t occur until next year, and sensor-equipped bands may be offered as upgrades rather than standard options. However, with Apple’s penchant for surprises, the event may unveil unexpected developments not yet rumored.
