Sony and Kojima Productions Part Ways on New Game PHYSINT
Sony and Kojima Productions recently announced their decision to end their collaboration on the highly anticipated stealth action game, PHYSINT. This news came as a surprise to many fans, as the game had generated significant excitement since its announcement in 2024.
However, the end of this partnership does not mean the end of PHYSINT. Following Sony’s decision, Kojima was able to pitch the project to other publishers and found support from Xbox, with whom he is already working on another game, OD.
The reasons behind Sony’s decision to step away from PHYSINT are not entirely clear, but it may be related to the sales performance of Death Stranding 2 on the PS5. The game reportedly sold just 2 million copies after its PC release, which may have influenced Sony’s decision.
Interestingly, it is Xbox that has stepped in to support PHYSINT, despite recent cutbacks in their own studios and third-party partnerships. Xbox’s involvement also extends to collaborating on film and television projects, in line with Sony’s original plans for the game.
Sony released a statement regarding the decision, expressing respect for Kojima’s vision and leaving the door open for future collaboration. Kojima, in turn, expressed his commitment to continuing development of PHYSINT with Xbox as a partner.
Exciting news for Xbox gamers, as they will now have the opportunity to experience PHYSINT, potentially on PC as well. Kojima’s track record with PC releases, such as Death Stranding, suggests that a PC version of PHYSINT is likely in the works.
Overall, while the shift in partnerships may disappoint some PlayStation fans, it opens up new possibilities for the future of PHYSINT and showcases the dynamic nature of the gaming industry.
