Mastering the Customization of iOS 27 Camera Controls

Leading up to Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), rumors swirled about new features in iOS 27. Most predictions were accurate, but one surprise was saved for the iPhone event.

In May, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman hinted at a “fully customizable” iOS 27 Camera app. Users would gain control over which buttons appear and where they are located.

Although absent from iOS 27 betas, Gurman confirmed the feature was active on internal Apple devices. The delay may have been to align with the iPhone 18 Pro’s camera upgrades.

The new camera system, available on both iPhone 18 Pro models, boasts manual iris adjustment, shutter speed, white balance, and a histogram for exposure levels.

Exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro series, manual settings enhance photography control. Other Camera customizations are accessible on older models, already visible in the iOS 27 Release Candidate post the “Surprise and Shine” event.

Customizing Your Camera in iOS 27

After updating to iOS 27, users can personalize their Camera app by holding the control row to reveal a customization screen. Alternatively, tap “Edit” in the top-left corner.

Controls vary by iPhone model, with some, like Night Mode, remaining essential despite customization. Individual mode customization is possible, with certain controls persisting across modes.

Expect a similar experience on iPhone 18 Pro models, likely with added controls for manual adjustments. Pre-orders for the new models commence September 12, with availability on September 18.
