The Latest Update for Civilization 7: What’s New?

Today, on September 15th, the much-anticipated September update for Civilization 7 is finally here. This update brings with it a range of exciting new features, including new maps and diplomatic updates that promise to enhance your gaming experience.

New Maps, New Adventures

One of the key highlights of this update is the addition of a fresh version of the True Start Earth map. This map closely mirrors the real world, allowing players to immerse themselves in alternate histories with a touch of accuracy. Senior game designer Taymoor Rehman explains that this updated map includes unique twists, such as magnified areas like Japan and Hawaii to accommodate multiple civilizations.

Rehman also mentions significant changes to the map layout, with a focus on creating more engaging gameplay. The top and bottom sections of the map have been truncated to make room for more strategic opportunities, particularly around Europe, Persia, China, and North America.

Diplomatic Tweaks

Aside from map updates, the September update also brings changes to diplomacy in Civilization 7. Players can now spend influence points to avoid being dragged into wars initiated by their allies. However, this feature comes with a catch – allies will persist in their attempts to involve you, requiring a strategic use of influence points to maintain neutrality.

Additionally, in cases where two allies are at odds, players will have to take a side rather than remaining passive observers. Rehman hints at future mechanics like liberation, which will add further depth to diplomatic gameplay.

Interface Enhancements

Version 1.5.0 introduces the “radial ruler” overlay, simplifying tile distance calculations for players. This tool aids in identifying optimal locations for buildings, wonders, and other strategic elements within the game world.

Hall of History DLC

Accompanying the update is the Hall of History DLC, featuring new leaders like Tudor English Queen Elizabeth I and US president George Washington, along with three new civilizations – England, Babylon, and the Gauls. This DLC adds fresh content for players to explore and enjoy.
