Beware: iOS 27 Gesture Prank Can Freeze Your iPhone – Here’s What You Need to Know

A relatively unknown bug in iOS 27 has gained popularity, serving as a cautionary tale against following unsolicited advice from the internet.

While encountering this glitch accidentally is rare, it has been circulating as a prank on social media. Some portray it as a secret set of gestures that unlocks a hidden feature in iOS 27.

This so-called “hidden feature” actually renders your iPhone virtually unresponsive. Fortunately, the impact is more of an annoyance than a threat, causing parts of the user interface to freeze and necessitating a forced restart to restore normal functionality.

This is not the first instance of glitches causing iPhone lockups. While this particular glitch is easier to trigger, it still requires deliberate action.

To activate this glitch, you must quickly open the Notification Center and the Control Center in succession. Swipe down from the top-left corner to reveal the Notification Center, then swipe down from the top-right corner to access the Control Center before the Notification Center fully appears.

After dismissing the Control Center, you may notice a portion of the Lock Screen lingering at the top of the Home Screen, indicating the iPhone may still be partially locked. As a result, most swipe gestures and taps cease to function.

Attempting to power off the iPhone through the side button or the Control Center proves futile, as the power off slider remains unresponsive. The only solution is to perform a force restart:

1. Press and release the volume up button.
2. Press and release the volume down button.
3. Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
4. Release the side button.

Upon restarting, the iPhone should return to normal operation. The glitch is not consistently reproducible and may require precise timing between opening the Control Center and Notification Center. It is advisable to exercise caution until Apple addresses this bug.

As of the latest update, the issue persists in the iOS 27.2 beta version, indicating a potential oversight in the previous developer beta. While it is uncertain if the bug has been reported to Apple, the increasing visibility may prompt the company to investigate and resolve it.
