Apple’s high-yield Apple Card Savings Account has finally received a rate increase after years of decreases, marking the first uptick since January 2024. The new rate, now at 3.5% APY, may seem modest compared to its earlier days. When the account launched in April 2023, it boasted a 4.15% APY, attracting customers with its competitive return and no minimum balance requirement.

To deposit funds into the Apple Card Savings Account, customers could link external bank accounts for ACH transfers or transfer money to an Apple Cash account for use with Apple Pay. Additionally, Apple Card holders could easily direct their Daily Cash rewards into the savings account to start earning interest right away.

The account initially gained popularity, with nearly a billion dollars deposited within two weeks of its launch. Interest rates also saw rapid increases, reaching 4.5% by January 2024. However, the account soon experienced a downward trend, with rates dropping to 3.4% by June 2026.

The recent rate increase back to 3.5% offers a glimmer of hope for customers, even though it remains below its peak. Competing platforms, such as Robinhood, currently offer higher APY rates, reflecting market standards.

The future of the Apple Card Savings Account is uncertain as Goldman Sachs, the current holder, transitions to Chase. While Chase plans to introduce a new Apple savings account, existing customers may continue with Goldman for a period. Apple has yet to provide detailed information on the transition process.

In conclusion, the Apple Card Savings Account’s journey from high rates to a recent increase reflects the evolving landscape of high-yield savings accounts. Customers can expect changes in the coming months as the transition to Chase unfolds.
