Samsung Embraces Cross-Platform Compatibility with SmartTag 3

Samsung has been a key player in the tracker ecosystem with its SmartTag lineup for the past five years. Similar to Apple’s AirTag, these trackers have been exclusive to the Samsung ecosystem, much to the dismay of non-Galaxy users.

One of the main criticisms of Samsung’s SmartTag has been its limited compatibility due to the Android operating system on Samsung devices. However, Samsung has now taken a step towards inclusivity with the launch of the SmartTag 3, which now offers support for iPhone users, albeit with some feature limitations compared to Galaxy phones.

Despite this progress, Android users outside of the Samsung Galaxy range may still feel left out. Samsung initially hinted at wider Android compatibility for the SmartTag 3, stating that it can be used with other Android devices that have access to the Google Play Store to download the necessary apps.

However, upon further investigation by Android Authority, it was revealed that the SmartTag 3 is currently only compatible with Galaxy devices and there are no immediate plans to extend support to other Android smartphones. A Samsung spokesperson confirmed this limitation, leaving non-Galaxy Android users in the dark regarding SmartTag 3 compatibility.
