YouTube Enhances TV Viewing Experience with New Features

YouTube has recently unveiled a range of new features aimed at improving the viewing experience on TV screens. These features include an instant shopping tool and visual enhancements for low-resolution videos. One of the key upgrades is the automatic upscaling of videos below 1080p resolution using AI technology to enhance them to HD quality. YouTube also has plans to support upscaling to 4K resolution in the near future, with both creators and viewers having the option to opt out of this feature.

According to YouTube’s announcement, creators will have complete control over their video library, with the original files and resolution being preserved. Creators can choose to opt out of the upscaling feature, and viewers will still have the option to watch videos in their original uploaded resolution, as the super resolution will be clearly indicated in the settings.

The automatic upscaling will apply to videos uploaded in resolutions ranging from 240p to 720p, as confirmed by YouTube spokesperson Veronica Navarrete. It is important to note that this feature will not be applied to older videos that have already been remastered digitally to 1080p by creators or channels.

In addition to video upscaling, YouTube is increasing the video thumbnail limit from 2MB to 50MB to support 4K images. The platform is also testing larger video uploads with select creators. Viewers will soon have the option to purchase products featured in videos by scanning a QR code displayed on the TV screen with their phone. YouTube is also experimenting with allowing creators to showcase products at specific moments in their videos.
