Meta Unveils Muse Spark Open AI Model in Collaboration with Apple

This groundbreaking model, which Meta claims is the first of its kind, is designed to operate on desktops using two Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studios equipped with the latest MLX framework.

In a surprising move, Meta and Apple, typically seen as competitors, joined forces for the launch of Muse Spark Open. The collaboration between the two tech giants has been met with public support and excitement.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that Muse Spark Open performs exceptionally well on the new Mac Studios. He credited the successful integration to collaboration with Apple’s John Ternus.

Apple’s new CEO, John Ternus, responded with praise for the Muse Spark Open model, highlighting its efficiency and the innovative capabilities of the Mac Studio in advancing on-device AI technology.

Meta’s chief AI officer, Alexandr Wang, expressed excitement over the collaboration between Meta and Apple, emphasizing the positive outcome of their joint efforts after months of working together.

The Muse Spark Open model boasts 816 billion total parameters and is described by Meta as a natively multimodal model that excels in long-horizon tasks, complex software engineering, and multi-step reasoning. Apple has also released a technical post detailing MLX, an array framework for ML tasks on Apple Silicon, Muse Spark Open, and two other open models.
