Google launches its ‘universal’ online shopping cart

Google Introduces Universal Cart for Seamless Online Shopping Experience

Google has unveiled its latest innovation in the world of online shopping with the introduction of the Universal Cart. This intelligent AI-powered shopping cart is designed to revolutionize the way users shop online, just in time for the upcoming Black Friday and holiday season spending frenzy.

The Universal Cart tool, initially previewed at Google’s I/O event in May, is now available in the US on the Gemini app and Google Search. Its primary goal is to simplify the shopping experience, helping users stay organized and save money while browsing and purchasing products online.

As the name suggests, the Universal Cart acts as a centralized digital shopping cart where users can save products from various retailers all in one place. This feature seamlessly integrates across different Google platforms, allowing for a seamless shopping experience.

Google’s Universal Cart also offers notifications for price drops and restocks on saved items, eliminating the need to constantly check individual retailer websites. Additionally, the cart can display relevant promotional codes and offers alongside saved products, enhancing the overall shopping experience.

Users can choose to pay for items directly through Google Wallet or transfer them to the retailer’s cart for checkout. The integration with Google Wallet also enables the analysis of perks provided by saved credit cards, assisting users in selecting the best payment method for their purchase.

The release of the Universal Cart coincides with the growing competition in the AI-assisted shopping sector, with Google’s competitors like OpenAI and Meta launching their own AI assistants for online shopping. Shopify has also announced plans to expand its platform to accommodate more AI agents for browsing and purchasing from Shopify listings.
