Google rolling out Material 3 redesign of Gmail for iPhone

Google is now introducing a Material 3 redesign of Gmail on iPhone and iPad after successful testing earlier this year.

While Google’s Android and web apps have widely adopted the new design language, iOS has been slower in its adoption.

The redesign in Gmail features a pill-shaped search bar, replacing the rounded rectangle, and a different style for the bottom bar when using integrated Google Chat and/or Meet.

The “Compose” button is now a rounded rectangle, and blue is the new accent color throughout the application, with red being less prominent.

The navigation drawer in Gmail remains unchanged, while a small tweak in the message view includes a horizontal three-dot overflow icon.

The Material 3 redesign aims to align the iOS Gmail experience with Android and web, and it is being rolled out with version 6.0.250413 of Gmail for iPhone and iPad.

Material 3 is also available in Google Chat, Home, Maps, Meet, Photos, and Search on iOS.

On a different note, Google Calendar for iOS, which still follows the previous design language, is receiving an update that allows users to create and modify birthday events, with “Birthday” as a new event option.
