Standalone ‘Google Gemini’ app spotted for iPhone with Live

Google Gemini on iOS, previously part of the Google (Search) app, now has a standalone “Google Gemini” app available on the App Store. This app includes access to Gemini Live.

The standalone app features a Gemini icon on your homescreen, offering the ability to “Unlock the power of Google AI on your iPhone.” Previously, users had to navigate to the “Gemini” tab within the Google app, or use the customizable shortcuts on the Google app’s homescreen widget to access Gemini with one tap.

The “Google Gemini” app listing showcases the capability to access Gemini Live, a feature not yet available within the Google app. Users who have downloaded the app have experienced the voice experience in action, with Gemini utilizing a Live Activity that allows it to remain active while the user continues using their phone.

Currently, the “Google Gemini” app is only available for download by users in the Philippines. The App Store listing is not accessible in the US, indicating that Google is likely testing the app in select countries before a wider release.

Functionality-wise, Gemini on iPhone via the standalone app matches gemini.google.com, but the UI has not been updated to align with the Android experience. The standalone app is expected to enable faster updates from Google. It’s worth noting that Google Assistant exists as its own app on the Apple platform.
