Black Friday Deal: Is the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 Still worth the Hype?
As we dive into the Black Friday season, the frenzy of deals can be overwhelming. While we love sharing the best discounts with you, it’s equally important to steer clear of the less-than-ideal ones.
For the past few years, we’ve been championing the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9, highlighting its value in various sales events. Currently, Amazon has slashed its price to just £79.99 as part of their Black Friday Week promotion, offering almost a 50% discount from the original price.
Despite appearing as a fantastic Black Friday deal at first glance, there are three compelling reasons why purchasing it may not be the best choice.
Lifespan
The Galaxy Tab A9 made its debut in 2023, making it two years old already. While this may not seem too outdated, considering it’s halfway through its software support guarantee, the outlook is less promising.
Samsung’s commitment to providing new Android updates extends only to four years, limiting this tablet to Android 17 and no further.
Old-gen
Despite the enticing deal on Amazon, the Tab A9 now belongs to the previous generation. Interestingly, Amazon labels it as a ‘2025 model’ alongside a ‘2024 model’, which doesn’t align with known information from reliable sources like GSMA.
Samsung recently refreshed its budget tablet lineup with the launch of the Galaxy Tab A11, pictured below. The absence of a Tab A10 suggests a two-year gap in the series.
In a market where quality budget tablets are scarce, making an informed purchase is crucial.

Exploring the market reveals more enticing offers…
The recently launched Galaxy Tab A11 has already seen discounts, with prices as low as £99 during various Black Friday sales, not exclusive to Amazon.
While that particular deal may have ended, for just £20 more, waiting for it to resurface is worthwhile. It’s possible that it could return during Black Friday 2025.
John Lewis offers the 128GB Galaxy Tab A11 for £139 (£50 off), a remarkable deal that seems almost too good to be true, especially considering the 64GB model is priced just £10 higher and available only in grey.
The new model boasts several enhancements, including a higher refresh rate screen, improved front-facing camera, and an extended software support guarantee of seven years.
Just recently, the Tab A9 in its higher specification model was priced at £89, featuring 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Although this offer has expired, it would have been a decent deal for those unconcerned with its limited lifespan.
While untested, the Honor Pad X7 may also be worth considering. Known for their quality, Honor devices often receive high ratings. The 2025 model shares a similar 8.7-inch screen size with the Galaxy Tabs and comparable specifications, with the added benefit of a larger battery.
Ordinarily priced at £99.99, Amazon has slashed the price by 31% for Black Friday, offering the Honor Pad X7 for just £69 until 27th November.
