The latest version of the downtime organizer app, Sofa, has been unveiled with a range of exciting new features for iPhone and iPad users. The updated Sofa 4.0 boasts a fresh user interface on the home screen, known as “The Pile,” along with custom categories, pinned lists, smart lists, and more.

Developer Shawn Hickman has introduced Sofa 4.0 today, packed with a multitude of enhancements and new functionalities. Since its initial launch, Sofa has continuously evolved and even received the prestigious Apple Editors’ Choice Award.

With the latest update, Shawn Hickman has brought a significant upgrade that further enhances the user experience by allowing easy tracking of movies, TV shows, music, books, podcasts, apps, and games.

Sofa 4.0 enables users to customize the app according to their preferences, offering a simple or more personalized experience while facilitating the tracking of various interests.

Key highlights of the new upgrades include:

  • New home screen with fresh UI for The Pile, Logbook, and Pinned Items
  • Custom categories to add and track a wide range of items
  • Personalized “Ingredients” for tracking, such as rating system, tagging, planner, etc.
  • Pinned lists for easy access to favorite items
  • Smart lists that automatically populate based on filters

The standard version of Sofa is free to use and completely ad-free. However, for access to the new customization features introduced in this update, users can opt for Super Sofa, priced at $3.99 per month or $29.99 per year, supporting Shawn’s ongoing development efforts. Additionally, a family subscription option is available.

ALL NEW HOME SCREEN DESIGN

• Refreshed design for The Pile

• Updated design and name for Logbook (previously Activity)

• New design and name for Pinned Items (previously The Shelf)

• Customize the home screen display in Settings → Fiddly Things

CUSTOM CATEGORIES

Create categories for a wide range of items such as articles, events, and places to eat.

ADD YOUR OWN INGREDIENTS

Create your own rating system, set dates for future activities, add tags, and more.

PINNED LISTS

Keep your favorite lists easily accessible.

SMART LISTS

Create lists that automatically populate based on specific filters.

ADD MANUAL ITEMS

Manually add items to Sofa with full editing capabilities including title, description, image, and custom Ingredients.

ADD LINKS

Paste links into Sofa for automatic previews and pre-filled information.

ADD VIA SHARE SHEET

Add content from websites, videos, articles, etc., to Sofa via the Share Sheet.

USE IMAGES FROM CAMERA ROLL

Select images from your camera roll or capture new photos for cover images.

BACKUP FILE CHANGES

Sofa now uses a new file format (.sofa3bk) for backup files to improve image saving and support the new Ingredients feature. Automatic backups can now be set to daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.

END OF SHARED LISTS FEATURE

The beta feature for Shared Lists will be discontinued to make way for future enhancements like Custom Categories and Ingredients. The developer expresses regret over this decision but promises to reintroduce sharing functionality in the future.
