Nintendo eshop removes The Great Rebellion despite censorship compromises EXCLUSIVE

The Great Rebellion: Edition 2084 Pulled from US and UK Nintendo eShop

Political satire game The Great Rebellion: Edition 2084 has been removed from the US and UK Nintendo eShop stores. The game developer claims to have made several censorship compromises to adhere to global standards.

KVLTGAMES, the developer, stated that The Great Rebellion was available on Nintendo’s online stores but was suddenly pulled from the US and UK stores just two days ago. Surprisingly, the Japanese eShop still offers the game for purchase, despite the reported censorship controversies.

Previously, The Great Rebellion faced a ban on Steam for German customers due to compliance with the country’s speech laws.

The cyberpunk roguelike game, The Great Rebellion, is known for its right-wing political commentary and soundtrack, sparking controversy.

KVLTGAMES shared a statement with fans, mentioning that Nintendo expressed concerns about the game potentially harming the company’s brand. However, specific content violating standards was not identified.

KVLTGAMES provided Niche Gamer with insights into the approval process. Despite passing the “Lot Check” in September – a review ensuring compliance with Nintendo’s guidelines – the decision to remove the game in late November, just days before its launch, came as a surprise.

The Great Rebellion is currently available on PC via Steam (excluding Germany) and on the Nintendo eShop in Japan.
