Grounded 2 recently received its most significant update to date with the launch of the Into the Abyss update. Not only that, but the game is also reaching a wider audience with its arrival on PlayStation 5 in early access.
Players can now enjoy Grounded 2 on Xbox Series X|S, PC (available on Xbox and Steam), and PlayStation 5. Additionally, the game is accessible through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
The Into the Abyss update introduces a new underwater world in Brookhollow Park. Skunk Pond offers players new areas to explore, a fresh progression system, underwater base building mechanics, and new creatures to encounter. To aid in exploration, players can utilize the Toe Biter Buggy.
Skunk Pond boasts underwater caverns and numerous hidden points of interest, but it’s not the only area to discover. The Bridge, Gnarly Bark, and Pergola have also been expanded, providing more opportunities for exploration.
Compared to its predecessor, Grounded 2 is taking a different approach by expanding its reach to PlayStation 5 in early access sooner. The original game took two years after its full release on Xbox to make its way to PS5 in early 2024, where it achieved significant success in the PlayStation Store charts. Grounded and its sequel offer a unique four-player co-op survival experience inspired by the classic film “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids!”
While Grounded 2 bears the Obsidian brand, it is a substantial co-development effort with Eidos Montreal. Following changes within Xbox, including layoffs that affected Obsidian, the studio has shifted its focus to collaborate with Bethesda on a new Fallout project. This decision has been well-received by fans, especially given the enduring popularity of Fallout: New Vegas. However, it may be some time before this new project comes to fruition.
