Microsoft
Windows 11 Update: Enhancing and Disrupting Dark Mode
Microsoft Windows 11 Update Introduces Dark Mode Issue
In a recent Windows 11 update, Microsoft aimed to enhance the consistency of dark mode by introducing dark mode for various actions in File Explorer. However, users are now facing an unexpected issue – a blinding white flash that appears when opening File Explorer.
Microsoft has acknowledged this problem in the known issues section of the update, stating that after installing KB5070311, users may encounter a brief white screen before the files and folders load in dark mode. This white flash can be particularly disruptive for users working in dark environments.
The company is currently working on a fix for this issue to provide a smoother experience for users navigating File Explorer in dark mode.
It is surprising that such a glaring bug was not identified during testing, especially considering Microsoft’s commitment to offering a more consistent dark mode experience in Windows 11. Along with addressing the File Explorer issue, Microsoft is also planning to introduce dark mode for the Run dialog, improvements to progress bars, charts views, and confirmation dialogs.
Update, December 2nd: Mention of potential workaround has been removed.
