Record-breaking Sale: Ex-Brunei McLaren F1 Fetches $25.3 Million at Auction
The McLaren F1: A Legendary Supercar
The recent RM Sotheby’s Abu Dhabi auction showcased some of the most coveted supercars in the world, with the highlight being the sale of the iconic McLaren F1. While the Pagani Zonda Riviera fetched over $10 million, it was the McLaren F1 that stole the show, selling for a staggering $25.3 million.
Owned by the Sultan of Brunei, this particular McLaren F1, chassis no. 14, holds a special place in automotive history. Originally finished in Titanium Yellow over black, the car underwent a transformation in 2007 and now boasts a striking plain white exterior with black OZ Racing centre-locking wheels.
Equipped with the High-Downforce Kit and LM-spec interior, this McLaren F1 has a unique history. With only 64 road-spec models ever produced, this car stands out as one of the most exclusive examples. The odometer reads 13,711 miles, making it a well-preserved piece of automotive excellence.
It’s worth noting that this McLaren F1 is one of the last eight to receive the HDK treatment, further adding to its rarity and allure. Its association with the Brunei royal garage only adds to its mystique and prestige, making it a prized possession for any collector.
For enthusiasts and collectors alike, the McLaren F1 remains a timeless masterpiece, blending performance, design, and heritage in a way that few cars can match. The record-breaking sale at the RM Sotheby’s auction is a testament to the enduring appeal of this legendary supercar.
