Cloudflare Experiences Outage, Causing Websites to Crash

Cloudflare recently faced a widespread issue, leading to websites crashing with a 500 Internal Server Error. The company has acknowledged the problem and is actively investigating the reports.

Cloudflare, a popular service utilized by numerous websites to enhance speed and security, is currently encountering difficulties.

As a result, visitors to certain websites are encountering a “500 Internal Server Error” message instead of the expected content.

The appearance of a 500 error typically indicates an issue on the server side, rather than with the user’s device or internet connection.

Cloudflare has provided an update on its status page, stating that it is addressing issues with the Cloudflare Dashboard and associated APIs.

“Customers using the Dashboard / Cloudflare APIs may experience disruptions as requests may fail and errors could be displayed,” the company explained.

Cloudflare has implemented a solution, and affected websites are expected to gradually return online.

Cloudflare Attributes Outage to React2Shell Patch Deployment

Further details have been shared by Cloudflare in a subsequent update to its documentation, with a promise to release a comprehensive report soon.

According to Cloudflare, a modification was made to the Cloudflare Web Application Firewall to address a widespread vulnerability (React2Shell) impacting React Server Components.

This patch inadvertently caused disruptions within Cloudflare’s infrastructure, leading to the crash of numerous websites, including Cloudflare’s own dashboard.

“This incident was not malicious in nature; the modification was deployed by our team to address the industry-wide vulnerability disclosed this week in React Server Components,” the company clarified.

Update 1: All affected websites have been restored to full functionality as of 8 AM ET.
