Gemini’s Integration with Android Assistant: A Slow Transition
Google Delays Replacement of Assistant with Gemini on Android
Google has announced that it will be extending the timeline for replacing Google Assistant with Gemini on Android devices. Instead of completing the transition by the end of 2025 as originally planned, the company now aims to have the upgrade process continue into 2026.
The decision to adjust the timeline was made to ensure a seamless transition for users. Once the transition is complete, devices that meet the minimum requirements for running Gemini will no longer have access to Google Assistant. Additionally, the Google Assistant app will no longer be available for download.
In the meantime, Google has introduced features to allow users to make phone calls, set timers, and send messages through Gemini without enabling Gemini Apps Activity. This change enables users to utilize Gemini’s assistant-like functions while opting out of having their interactions used for AI training purposes.
