Customize ChatGPT’s Energy: A Feature from OpenAI
Enhance Your ChatGPT Experience with Personalization Options
OpenAI has introduced new features for ChatGPT users, allowing them to adjust the chatbot’s warmth, enthusiasm, emoji use, headers, and lists. This update, shared via a social media post, gives users more control over customizing their interactions with ChatGPT.
In the Personalization menu, users can now set preferences for ChatGPT’s tone to More, Less, or Default. These options complement the existing ability to choose a “base style and tone,” which includes Professional, Candid, and Quirky tones introduced by OpenAI previously.
The adjustment of ChatGPT’s tone has been a topic of discussion throughout the year. OpenAI had to reverse one update that made the chatbot overly sycophantic, and later refined GPT-5 to be warmer and friendlier based on user feedback. Some users found the newer model to be colder and less friendly, prompting the need for further customization options.
Critics, including academics and AI experts, have raised concerns about chatbots’ tendency to excessively praise users and validate their beliefs. This behavior, referred to as a “dark pattern,” can lead to addictive usage patterns and potentially harm users’ mental health.
