OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT Translate Feature

OpenAI has recently launched a new feature called ChatGPT Translate, which bears a striking resemblance to Google Translate. This new addition comes as OpenAI transitions into a consumer-focused product company, while Anthorpic shifts its focus towards enterprises and software programmers.

The ChatGPT Translate feature allows users to translate text using ChatGPT. However, the specific model being utilized for this feature by OpenAI remains undisclosed. Despite this, the Translate feature is accessible to all users and does not require a paid account.

It is uncertain whether the Translate feature utilizes the GPT 5.2 Auto model with a customized prompt for translation. This feature, found at chatgpt.com/translate, is open to all users and does not require a paid subscription.

Although OpenAI has not made an official announcement regarding ChatGPT Translate, the tool is readily accessible to users. While bearing resemblance to Google Translate, ChatGPT’s Translate feature is notably more advanced.

Users can paste, type, speak, upload images, or attach files for translation. The tool can detect languages or allow users to select source and target languages. It aims to maintain the original meaning rather than a literal translation and offers customization options like “more fluent,” “business formal,” “academic audience,” or “explain like a child.”

One key feature is the ability to continue the conversation after the initial translation, setting it apart from traditional translation tools. However, this feature is not yet available on the ChatGPT mobile applications for Android or iOS.
