2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class EV spied with retro grille but modern body

The Electric Mercedes-Benz C-Class: A Rival to the BMW i3

The electric Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been spotted ahead of its anticipated debut later this year, positioning itself as a competitor to the upcoming BMW i3. The vehicle boasts a claimed range of up to 800km, making it a formidable player in the electric vehicle (EV) market.

Introducing the ‘C-Class with EQ Technology’

The C-Class electric vehicle will be officially known as the ‘C-Class with EQ Technology’, aligning with the nomenclature used for the electric GLC with EQ Technology SUV unveiled at the Munich motor show in 2025. Production of the C-Class EV is slated to commence in the second quarter of 2026, with a shared 800-volt MB.EA electric platform with the BMW iX3-rivaling GLC EV.

Design and Features

The C-Class EQ retains its ‘iconic grille’, a design element that has been a hallmark of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, even with the departure of longtime design chief Gorden Wagener. The vehicle’s design is a departure from the polarizing aesthetics of previous Mercedes EVs, opting for a more traditional ‘three-box’ sedan silhouette.

The interior of the C-Class EQ is expected to feature the impressive 39.1-inch ‘MBUX Hyperscreen’, offering a luxurious and high-tech driving experience. While details on the powertrain are yet to be fully disclosed, the top-spec GLC 400 4Matic EQ provides insight into the potential capabilities, including a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and a sizable battery for an extended range.

Competition and Future Prospects

The C-Class EQ will go head-to-head with the BMW i3 electric sedan, both touting impressive driving ranges of up to 800km. The electric vehicle market is heating up, with BMW and Mercedes-AMG both preparing to introduce more electric models, catering to the growing demand for sustainable and high-performance vehicles.
