Google Photos Introduces Text Prompts for AI Video Generation

In a recent update, Google Photos has enhanced its generative AI photo-to-video feature by allowing users to have more control over the final result. The new text prompts feature enables users to describe the specific movement, style, or effect they want to see in their video creations. This update, announced on Monday, aims to provide users with a more personalized and customizable experience when bringing still images to life.

Text prompts complement the existing options of “Subtle Movement” and “I’m feeling lucky” for Google Photos’ image-to-video tool. Unlike the previous options, text prompts allow users to input their own descriptions to guide the video generation process. Google Photos will also offer prompt suggestions for instant video inspiration, and users can edit the text prompts to further refine the resulting video creations.

It’s important to note that the text prompt feature is only available to users who are 18 years old and above for Google’s image-to-video tool in Photos. However, text prompts have been accessible for similar capabilities in Gemini for users aged 13 and older. This update aligns Google Photos’ image-to-video tool with other AI editors like xAI’s Grok, offering users more control over the creative process.

While generative AI features in Google Photos may not be available in all regions yet, the functionality can vary depending on location. Users are encouraged to visit Google’s support page for detailed information on current restrictions and availability.

In addition to the text prompts feature, Google Photos now allows users to include audio by default in every video created using the image-to-video tool. This feature streamlines the video creation process, making it easier to publish videos online without the need for additional editing. Furthermore, Google has introduced a new Google Photos picker for Gmail, simplifying the process of sharing images and videos via email. Users can now select multiple photos and videos simultaneously and search for specific photos and album names, enhancing the overall user experience.
