Return to Tradition: Civilization 7’s Test of Time Update Allows Players to Play as One Civ Throughout the Entire Game
The Evolution of Civilization 7: Test of Time Update Revealed
For fans of the Civilization franchise, the passage of time is a familiar concept. As Civilization 7 approaches its first anniversary next week, Firaxis Games has announced a significant update that promises to bring major changes to the game. This update, named Test of Time, is set to be released this spring and includes a range of new features and enhancements.
Playing Through the Ages
One of the key additions in the Test of Time update is the ability to play as a single civilization throughout the entire game. This new feature allows players to maintain continuity with their chosen civilization, offering a unique gameplay experience. When reaching the end of an age, players will have the option to continue with the same civilization, with AI-controlled civilizations adapting their strategies accordingly.
To prevent gameplay from becoming stagnant, Firaxis has introduced two new features – Apex Ages and Syncretism. Apex Ages represent a civilization’s peak period, offering unique bonuses and abilities. Syncretism allows players to adopt unique units or infrastructure from other civilizations in their prime, enhancing strategic options.
Varied Victory Paths
Another significant change in the update is the revamp of victory conditions. Players can now pursue victory through Military, Economy, Culture, or Science, providing a more diverse range of winning strategies. Legacy paths have been replaced with Triumphs, offering challenging objectives to achieve throughout the game.
Upcoming Updates
Prior to the Test of Time update, Firaxis will release a smaller update, version 1.3.2, which includes nested tooltips, civ balancing tweaks, and improvements to AI diplomacy and coastal raids. Additionally, players can look forward to receiving a free leader, Gilgamesh, as a special anniversary gift.
With these exciting updates on the horizon, Civilization 7 continues to evolve and expand, offering players new ways to experience the world-building and strategic gameplay that the series is known for.
