Apple Sports Tees Off with PGA and LPGA Golf Coverage
Apple has recently made a significant addition to its Sports app by introducing live PGA and LPGA scores and statistics just in time for the 2026 golf season. This move comes after indications in December that Apple was preparing to include golf in its sports lineup.
The announcement of golf’s inclusion in the Apple Sports app completes the minimalist design of the app, which has been focused on providing fast and uncluttered sports information since its launch in early 2024. The app stands out by offering a clean interface without any ads or distractions, allowing users to access the information they care about most.
Initially launched with traditional sports leagues like MLB, MLS, NBA, and NHL, Apple Sports later expanded to include NCAA basketball, NFL, and college football. The addition of other sports like Formula 1, NASCAR, and tennis required adjustments to the app’s presentation, and the inclusion of PGA and LPGA golf presented a unique challenge that has now been addressed with a carefully crafted design.
The new golf features in the Apple Sports app allow fans to track individual players with hole-by-hole results and scorecards, view live leaderboards, and access scores from every round of every tournament. Live Activities support is also available for ongoing tournaments, along with Game Card Sharing for sharing rich scorecards with friends via iMessage or social media.
In addition to golf, the latest update also adds support for European soccer federation cups and real-time tennis match stats. Looking ahead, Apple has hinted at more updates to come, with plans to include support for six South American soccer leagues in the next update.
Apple Sports is a free download from the App Store and is available in over 40 countries and regions. It is currently exclusive to iPhone users and requires iOS 17.2 or later, with iOS 18 and watchOS 11 needed for Live Activities access. With continuous updates and new features in the pipeline, Apple Sports is shaping up to be a comprehensive sports tracking app for fans around the world.
