I customized a MacBook Neo with colorful spare parts

The MacBook Neo: A Colorful and Customizable Laptop

Apple’s MacBook Neo is not just another laptop; it’s a statement piece. It’s the company’s most affordable laptop, boasting vibrant colors and unprecedented repairability. Owners can now purchase replacement parts in a variety of colors to customize their laptops like never before. The question arises: What if you could create a truly unique MacBook Neo with official parts?

The indigo Neo I ordered was my canvas, and spare parts from Apple’s self-service site were my tools. Opting for a blush trackpad and bottom case, along with citrus USB-C ports and keycaps, I set out to create a mishmash of colors that would truly stand out.

The four replacement parts I selected came at a cost of $165.64, nearly 30% of the laptop’s retail price. While the endeavor may not be the most cost-effective, the result is a one-of-a-kind laptop that reflects your personality and style.

Price:

Trackpad blush $78.32
Bottom case blush $34.32
Keycaps citrus $39
USB-C boards citrus $14
Total: $165.64

The customization process was surprisingly simple, thanks to detailed guides and videos. Replacing the parts was a breeze, with the bottom case being the easiest to swap out. Within 40 minutes, I had a completely customized Neo that was truly my own.

While experimenting with color combinations for the trackpad, ports, and bottom plate is fun, the cost can add up. Just swapping the keycaps alone can set you back $39, not to mention the additional cost for removal tools. However, the end result is a laptop that truly reflects your style and personality.

Customizing the keycaps proved to be the most challenging part of the process. While I encountered some hurdles along the way, the end result was worth it. The MacBook Neo now boasts a unique and colorful look that sets it apart from the rest.
