Microsoft Teams Redesign: Improving User Experience

If you’ve ever found yourself accidentally triggering the “raise hand” feature during a Microsoft Teams meeting, you’re not alone. But fret not, as Microsoft is on a mission to enhance its online meeting software for a smoother user experience.

The upcoming redesign, set to debut in June this year according to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, will see the relocation of the raise hand button from the main toolbar. This change aims to allow users to customize the controls displayed in the toolbar, making it more user-friendly and personalized.

One notable adjustment is the grouping of the Raise Hand feature under the Reactions button. This move is intended to minimize accidental clicks, as the two functions can easily be confused at first glance. By doing so, Microsoft hopes to prevent disruptions during calls caused by unintended hand-raising or emoji reactions.

In addition to these changes, users will also have the ability to pin, unpin, and reorder controls on the meeting toolbar. The “Leave” button will be prominently positioned on the right side, separate from other controls, to avoid accidental call closures or confusion when trying to exit a meeting. While Microsoft has not released visuals of the redesign, they assure users that it is designed to be more efficient and user-friendly, despite potentially feeling different initially.
