Rockstar Games says hack will have ‘no impact’

Rockstar Data Breach: ShinyHunters Demand Ransom

Over the weekend, Rockstar Games confirmed that a breach of a third-party provider resulted in the compromise of some of its data. The hacking group ShinyHunters has claimed responsibility for the breach, stating that they accessed Rockstar’s Snowflake instances through Anodot, a cost-monitoring and analytics service. They have demanded a ransom by April 14th, threatening to leak the stolen data if their demands are not met.

Rockstar Assures Limited Impact on Players

In response to the breach, Rockstar provided a statement to Kotaku, assuring that the compromised data is of limited scope and has no impact on the organization or its players.

Focus on Corporate Data, Not Player Information

While the exact nature of the compromised data remains unclear, it seems that the hack primarily targeted corporate data rather than player information. The stolen data may include financial records, marketing data, or contracts with major companies such as Sony and Microsoft.

History of Cyberattacks on Rockstar

This incident is not the first time Rockstar has fallen victim to a high-profile hack. In 2022, a significant amount of content from GTA VI was leaked online by the hacking group Lapsus$.
