Say Cheese: How the Motorola Razr 70 Transformed My Vacation Memories
When it comes to capturing group photos while on vacation, the struggle has always been real.
Having a designated “photographer” is helpful, but what about including everyone in the picture? It’s essential to have everyone in the frame when posing in front of landmarks like the Colosseum or the New York skyline.
Taking a selfie seems like the easiest solution, but it can be challenging to fit everyone and the background in the frame. Most front-facing cameras lack ultrawide lenses, making it hard to capture the entire scene without extending your arms or resorting to a selfie stick. Google tried to address this with the ‘Add Me’ feature on the Pixel 9 series, which merges two photos to make it look like the original photographer is part of the group. However, many people prefer authentic holiday memories over AI-generated images.

Asking a stranger to take the picture remains the most awkward but effective solution. Despite the risk of phone theft, the main challenge is the varying quality of photos taken by different people. While some may have photography skills, others may struggle to take a decent picture.
Even if the photo is blurry or poorly composed, it’s common to thank the stranger and pretend it’s great before considering asking someone else for a better shot. This process can be frustrating, especially in crowded tourist spots or when lighting conditions are ideal.
For every aspiring Steve McCurry or Annie Leibovitz you encounter, there are a few people who seem never to have taken a photo before in their lives
Could the new feature on Motorola’s Razr 70 flip phones finally provide a solution to this age-old problem?
The frame game
One of the major challenges for amateur photographers, especially with smartphones, is getting the framing right. Incorrect framing can ruin a beautiful background or exclude important elements from the shot.
When entrusting your phone to a stranger, there’s always the risk of them not being familiar with your phone model, especially with less popular devices like the Razr. However, the ‘Frame Match’ software feature aims to make it easier. Before handing over your phone, you can take a reference photo with the desired framing, allowing the other person to replicate it with on-screen guides.

With Frame Match, the chances of achieving the desired framing in photos taken by strangers are significantly improved, provided they follow the on-screen instructions.
While it may not guarantee perfect photos due to various factors, this feature could minimize the number of disappointing shots.
Video goes fully touch-free
Another exciting camera feature to look out for is related to video recording.
Motorola’s innovative feature allows you to start recording video automatically by opening the camera app and folding the screen, resembling the functionality of a traditional camcorder.
Camcorder Rotate to Zoom should make what’s already a fun, nostalgic way to record video even more seamless
Previously, adjusting the volume during touch-free video recording required swiping on the display. This step has been eliminated in the Razr 70 series with the introduction of ‘Camcorder Rotate to Zoom’.

Motorola
The ‘Camcorder Rotate to Zoom’ feature allows you to zoom in and out by simply rotating your wrist, offering a touch-free recording experience. This enhancement aims to make video recording even more seamless and enjoyable.
A new model enters the fray
Motorola’s Razr 70 series introduces a third model, the Plus variant, positioned between the regular and Ultra versions.
Priced starting at £999.99/€1,149.99, the Plus model offers a middle ground between the £799.99/€899.99 regular Razr 70 and the top-of-the-line £1,199.99/€1,399.99 Razr 70 Ultra. While all three models are available on the Motorola UK website, pricing and availability in the US are yet to be confirmed.
With these new camera features, the Razr 70 phones may have an edge over Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8 series in the competitive flip phone market.
Stay tuned for our comprehensive reviews of the Razr 70 phones to delve deeper into their capabilities. In the meantime, explore our hands-on experience with the Razr 70 Ultra for initial impressions.
