Explore China: Top 3 Must-Have Travel Apps
During my recent trip to Chengdu, China for the Oppo Find X9 Ultra launch, I discovered the importance of having specific apps to navigate and survive in a foreign country. While I typically rely on apps like Google Maps and Monzo when traveling, my experience in China taught me that I needed a different set of tools altogether.
Here are three essential apps that proved invaluable during my time in China, helping me navigate, make payments, and stay connected.
Amap
Although I’m a frequent user of Google Maps, I quickly realized that it’s not the most reliable option in China. Amap, on the other hand, provided accurate mapping and navigation, ensuring I didn’t get lost during my travels. It was particularly helpful for using public transport in Chengdu, providing live GPS location and detailed information on routes and stations.
Download Amap for Android or iPhone to enhance your navigation experience in China.
Alipay
While I usually rely on Monzo for payments while traveling, Alipay became a necessity in China. This versatile app allows for easy setup, accepts various payment methods including QR codes and barcodes, and can be used in a wide range of establishments from convenience stores to vending machines. It also offers additional services like ordering taxis and food.
Ensure you download Alipay for Android or iPhone before your trip to China to simplify your transactions.
Nomad eSIM
Roaming can be a hassle, which is why I always travel with an eSIM. Nomad eSIM, in particular, offers a seamless setup process and allows you to monitor your data usage while traveling. It worked flawlessly for me in China, providing reliable internet access and bypassing restrictions imposed by China’s firewall.
Consider downloading Nomad eSIM for Android or iPhone to stay connected during your travels.
