Insight into the BMW Hole-in-One Awards

  • Throughout the 37-year history of the BMW International Open, the prestigious Hole-in-One Award has been claimed only eight times.
  • At the renowned Munich Eichenried Golf Club, lucky golfers have driven home in impressive BMW vehicles such as the 1991 325i Convertible, 2001 Z8, 2019 M8, and the 2020 535i.
  • This year’s coveted prize is the cutting-edge BMW X5 M60e, featuring a plug-in hybrid inline-six gasoline engine in M Performance guise.

The BMW International Open is currently underway at the Munich Eichenried Golf Club, offering participants not only the chance to claim victory but also to win a brand-new BMW X5. This year’s prize is no ordinary vehicle; it is the M Performance version of the X5, known as the M60e.

The electrified SUV is the highlight of the event, with the opportunity to win it by scoring a hole-in-one on the challenging par-3 17th hole. The X5 M60e is a standout with its Frozen Space Silver finish, a unique matte paint from BMW’s Individual special colors catalog.

Equipped with striking 23-inch wheels, codenamed “1121 M,” the X5 M60e sets a new standard in style and performance. Winners of this exceptional SUV will be among the first to experience the vehicle, as series production is set to commence in the coming month.

BMW Hole-in-One Awards Through the Years

Reflecting on the past, the prestigious Hole-in-One award has been a rare achievement in the history of the BMW International Open. Notable winners at the Munich Eichenried Golf Club include Jay Townsend, who drove off in a 325i Convertible in 1991, and Raphaël Jacquelin, who claimed a Z8 in 2001.

Gaganjeet Bhullar and Jean-François Lucquin added to the legacy by winning an M8 Competition Coupe and a 535i in 2019 and 2020, respectively. Other winners in different locations include Andrew Marshall with a 640i Gran Coupe in 2012 and James Heath with an i8 Coupe in 2014.

Richie Ramsay and Aaron Rai continued the trend by winning an M760Li xDrive and an i8 Roadster in 2016 and 2018, respectively. The current X5 M60e, as the first M Performance model of the G65 family, sets the stage for future BMW innovations, including a V8-powered variant slated for 2027.

If you’re not part of this year’s competition, the new X5 will be available for purchase starting in late November. The range will include conventionally powered models initially, with plug-in hybrids and an electric iX5 variant set to follow in early 2027.
