Mouse Pointer Disappearing Bug: Microsoft’s Outlook Classic Glitch
Microsoft Investigating Issue Causing Mouse Pointer Disappearance in Classic Outlook Desktop Email Client
Microsoft has recently started investigating a known issue that is causing the mouse pointer to vanish in the classic Outlook desktop email client, leaving some users frustrated and unable to navigate the app effectively.
This bug has come to light almost two months after initial reports surfaced online, with affected users highlighting that their Outlook experience was severely impacted once the mouse pointer disappeared during app usage.
One user expressed their frustration, stating, “My mouse suddenly disappeared while using Outlook, and it’s incredibly frustrating because I didn’t authorize any changes. Now, I can’t locate anything, can’t open emails, can’t copy and paste, and the list of issues goes on.”
According to Microsoft’s recent support document, the mouse pointer, and in some cases, the cursor, disappears unexpectedly as users navigate across the Outlook interface. This bug also extends to users of other Microsoft 365 apps.
“When using classic Outlook, you may find that the mouse pointer or mouse cursor disappears as you move the pointer over the Outlook interface,” the document explained. “Although the mouse pointer is not visible, the email in the message list will change color as you hover over it. This issue has also been reported with OneNote and other Microsoft 365 apps to a lesser degree.”
Microsoft’s Outlook team is actively investigating these issues and promises to provide updates as more information becomes available. In the meantime, affected users are encouraged to have their Microsoft 365 administrator open a support case with the Outlook Support Team and submit diagnostic log files for analysis.
While a permanent fix timeline remains uncertain, Microsoft has suggested three temporary workarounds for affected users. These include clicking on an email in the message list when the cursor disappears, switching to PowerPoint and then returning to Outlook, or simply restarting the computer to temporarily resolve the issue.
Not long ago, Microsoft addressed another classic Outlook issue that prevented Microsoft 365 customers from opening encrypted emails following the installation of the December 2025 updates.
