Google’s Play Games update will show people what you’re playing

Google Play Games App Update: New Profile Features

Google is set to launch a major update for its Play Games app, introducing exciting new features to enhance your gaming experience. Starting from September 23 (October 1 in the EU and UK), players will have access to detailed stats and milestones on their profiles. This update will allow fellow gamers to view the games you’ve played, the time spent on each game, and the achievements you’ve unlocked. Additionally, Google promises to introduce new “social features,” although the specifics are yet to be revealed.

This update appears to be Google’s response to platforms like Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox, which offer similar profile features. Google will collect usage data from games you’ve installed or played previously, potentially sharing this information with developers. Users will have the option to import past activity from their account history to populate their Play Games profile from the get-go. Privacy-conscious individuals can adjust their Activity Controls in account settings to manage data collection related to gaming.

Users will have the discretion to make their gaming profile public or private. Making it public allows others to follow and view your gaming activity, while opting for privacy ensures that your gaming habits remain hidden. Furthermore, users can delete their Play Games profile along with all associated data at any time.

Coinciding with Apple’s upcoming software update, Google’s revamped gaming profiles will bring exciting changes to the gaming community. Apple’s new Games app, replacing Game Center, will offer a modern gaming hub experience on Mac, iPhone, and iPad devices. Featuring leaderboards, matchmaking services, game recommendations, and news updates, Games will keep users informed and connected with friends’ gaming activities.
