Nvidia Introduces New GPU Driver with Microsoft’s Advanced Shader Delivery Technology

Nvidia has announced the release of a new GPU driver, version 621.01, which incorporates Microsoft’s latest Advanced Shader Delivery technology. This innovative feature aims to enhance game launches by eliminating mid-game shader compilation, thereby reducing stuttering and CPU spikes.

Microsoft’s Advanced Shader Delivery operates by transferring shader compilation for various hardware configurations to the cloud. By leveraging DirectX 12, Windows 11, and the Microsoft Agility SDK, developers can store shaders in a State Object Database (SODB), enabling Microsoft’s cloud network to precompile shaders for a wide range of hardware and driver combinations, as explained by Nvidia’s Andrew Burnes.

Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 are among the titles now supporting Advanced Shader Delivery, accessible through the Xbox PC app. Burnes notes that this system is not limited to a particular storefront, ensuring benefits even when playing games purchased on platforms like Steam, provided the Xbox PC app is installed.

With Advanced Shader Delivery, players can bypass the shader compilation screen in Call of Duty and experience improved performance in supported games. By achieving a nearly 100 percent cache hit rate, this technology eliminates mid-game shader compilation, addressing CPU spikes and frame stutters in titles such as Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

Users can download Nvidia’s latest 621.01 update, while Advanced Shader Delivery is also compatible with AMD GPUs running Adrenalin 26.6.1 or higher, as well as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 series with driver version 2026.08.3 or above.
