The original AirTag is the cheapest it’s ever been

Why the First-Generation AirTag is Still a Top-Notch Tracker

Despite the recent release of a new AirTag by Apple in January, the original first-generation AirTag remains a highly reliable tracker, especially for those deeply integrated into Apple’s ecosystem. Currently, Walmart is offering this AirTag at a discounted price of $13.91, marking a significant reduction of $15.09 from its original price.

Precision and Functionality of the Original AirTag

For iPhone users, the first-generation AirTag stands out for its exceptional precision, made possible by its ultra-wideband (UWB) chip and seamless integration with Apple’s extensive Find My network. Unlike most Bluetooth trackers that provide only approximate locations of lost items, the AirTag offers precise guidance with on-screen arrows and distance estimates, leading you directly to your belongings. Apple continues to enhance the AirTag with new software features, making it easier to recover lost or stolen items. For instance, users can now share the AirTag’s location with up to five individuals, ideal for family travel, and even temporarily share it with major airlines like American Airlines and Virgin Atlantic for locating lost luggage. Additionally, when the battery eventually runs out after approximately a year, users can simply replace it with a new one, eliminating the need for an upgrade.

Enhancements of the Second-Generation AirTag

The second-generation AirTag further improves upon the already impressive tracking capabilities. With an upgraded UWB chip, it can now track items from a distance up to 50 percent farther away, and its speaker is notably louder. Moreover, owners of Apple Watch Series 9 or newer models can utilize Precision Finding directly from their watch to locate items, eliminating the need to open the Find My app on their phone. While these enhancements are valuable, the original AirTag remains a reliable choice for tracking belongings during spring break trips or everyday use.
