Waymo robotaxis to deliver orders for some US DoorDash users

DoorDash, a US-based food delivery app, has revealed plans for Waymo driverless cars to transport orders to select customers in an exciting partnership with the renowned robotaxi company owned by Google.

The collaboration is set to kick off in the upcoming months, with Waymo vehicles delivering a variety of items including takeout meals, groceries, and convenience store products to DoorDash users residing in Phoenix, a major city in the southwestern United States.

Nicole Gavel, Head of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships at Waymo, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Through our partnership with DoorDash, we leverage our proven delivery experience to provide customers with a seamless, contact-free way to get items they need, whether it’s groceries or a quick bite.”

Phoenix is already one of the cities where Waymo’s robotaxi service is operational, enhancing the convenience of autonomous vehicle delivery for DoorDash users in the region.

Customers using the DoorDash app will have the option to select Waymo autonomous car delivery during the checkout process, making the delivery experience more innovative and efficient.

Upon arrival in Waymo cars, customers will be able to access their ordered items by opening the trunk using the DoorDash app, ensuring a hassle-free delivery process.

David Richter, Vice President of Business and Corporate Development at DoorDash, emphasized the company’s commitment to a future featuring various autonomous delivery modes, highlighting the integration of Waymo vehicles into their delivery ecosystem.
