Mercedes-AMG GT SUV Takes on BMW X5 M in Electric Showdown
Mercedes-AMG Unveils Their First All-Electric SUV
AMG, known for their powerful V8 engines and high-performance vehicles, has taken a bold step into the world of electric SUVs with their latest offering. The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV is a powerhouse, featuring three electric motors that deliver a staggering 1,153 horsepower and 1,475 pound-feet of torque.
Impressive Performance and Range
The GT SUV comes with two battery options, offering capacities of 106 kWh and 128 kWh. The larger battery pack promises a WLTP range of up to 435 miles, setting a new benchmark for electric SUVs. Despite its hefty weight of 5,941 pounds, the GT SUV can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.7 seconds, putting it in supercar territory.
Advanced Technology and Features
Equipped with an 800-volt electrical architecture and high-performance batteries, the GT SUV ensures repeatable performance without overheating. The vehicle also features active suspension, rear-wheel steering, and aerodynamic elements to enhance handling and efficiency.
Simulated V8 Soundtrack and High-Tech Cabin
One of the unique features of the GT SUV is its simulated V8 soundtrack, designed to give drivers a traditional performance car experience. Inside, the cabin is a tech-lover’s dream, with multiple screens and ample storage space for both passengers and luggage.
Pricing and Availability
Mercedes-AMG will start taking orders for the GT 53 SUV in Germany, with prices starting at €113,050. The more powerful GT 55 and GT 63 versions will follow later. The electric SUV is expected to arrive in the U.S. in summer 2027 as a 2028 model year vehicle.
Competition and Future Developments
While the GT SUV sets a new standard for electric performance SUVs, BMW is also gearing up to launch their electric X5 M in 2028. With the electric vehicle landscape evolving rapidly, both Mercedes-AMG and BMW are pushing the boundaries of what electric SUVs can achieve.
