2026 BYD Shark 6: Enhanced Range and Performance Options at Competitive Pricing
BYD is expanding its lineup of the Shark 6 ute with new variants, including an entry-level cab/chassis version and a flagship Performance model with enhanced features.
The Dynamic cab/chassis model is now available, priced at $55,900 before on-road costs, positioned below the Premium ute in the lineup. The Premium pickup remains priced at $57,900 before on-roads, with additional pricing for the optional heavy-duty alloy tray yet to be announced.
A new Performance variant, priced at $62,900 before on-road costs, is set to arrive in May. This model features a larger turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, delivering increased power outputs of 350kW and 700Nm.
The cab/chassis and Performance models share the same turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder plug-in hybrid powertrain, offering outputs of 321kW and 650Nm. The Dynamic cab/chassis is equipped with a 29.58kWh lithium iron phosphate battery.
The Dynamic cab/chassis model features a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen, differing from the 15.9-inch screen in the Premium variant. In New Zealand, this model lacks certain features like a head-up display, heated and ventilated seats, rear privacy glass, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and rain-sensing wipers.
The Performance variant boasts a braked towing capacity of 3500kg, matching competitors like the GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV and Ford Ranger PHEV. It also offers improved acceleration and a new Crawl Mode for challenging terrains.
All Shark 6 models come with double-wishbone independent suspension front and rear, a unique feature in the ute segment. BYD aims to cater to various customer needs with the expanded lineup, offering choices for work, family, and performance-oriented users.
In 2025, BYD sold 18,073 Shark 6 units, surpassing competitors like the Cannon Alpha PHEV and Ranger PHEV. The Shark 6 was the 18th best-selling vehicle in Australia, highlighting its popularity in the market.
With the introduction of the cab/chassis and Performance models, BYD aims to attract more customers and build on the success of the Shark 6 lineup.
For detailed pricing information, the 2026 BYD Shark 6 lineup includes the Dynamic cab/chassis at $55,900, the Premium model at $57,900, and the Performance variant at $62,900 before on-road costs.
