tvOS 27.2: Snoopy Icons, Screen Saver Shuffle, and Enhanced Privacy Features

With the upcoming release of the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K next month, Apple is rolling out the latest tvOS 27.2 update to provide some enhancements to older models. This update sets the stage for the eventual integration of Siri AI and introduces some exciting changes, including the addition of the beloved Peanuts characters to the profile screen and improvements to screen savers.

Although Siri AI has been confirmed to be coming to 2021 and newer Apple TV 4K models in the next update, it is not yet live in the release candidate that was made available earlier this week. However, it is expected to be activated once the new set-top box is shipped, extending its functionality to older models as well.

Meanwhile, Apple has included some enjoyable features in the current update. Users can now select characters from Apple TV kids’ shows when setting up Child or Guest profiles on an Apple TV. This includes popular characters like Snoopy, Woodstock, Charlie Brown, and others from the Peanuts gang, as well as characters from shows like Frog and Toad and Stillwater, along with a selection of emojis.

These character images are exclusive to managed profiles created manually on the Apple TV. Profiles linked to an Apple Account will continue to display the associated account picture, with no option to change it.

Another new feature allows users to shuffle through all screen saver categories, including Aerials, Memories & Slideshows, Portraits, and Snoopy. Additionally, users can now select specific content for the Memories & Slideshows or Portraits categories directly from their iPhone or iPad, enhancing convenience, privacy, and security.

Furthermore, the update introduces Sign Language support for content in the Apple TV app, offering American (ASL) and British (BSL) options in the Settings menu. This feature is expected to be implemented in the near future, enhancing accessibility for users.

Additionally, references in tvOS 27.2 hint at exclusive features for the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, such as quad-speaker surround sound and a unique “Whole Room Audio” mode that optimizes audio output across four HomePod speakers for immersive sound experiences.
