Metro 2039 announced, full reveal on Thursday

Metro 2039: The Next Title in the Metro Series to be Revealed at Xbox Games Showcase 2026

Deep Silver and 4A Games have recently announced the upcoming addition to the Metro series, Metro 2039. The full reveal of this highly anticipated title is scheduled to take place during this Thursday’s Xbox Games Showcase 2026.

While no specific details have been disclosed about the game yet, the announcement serves as a stark reminder of the looming threat of nuclear war, drawing a parallel to real-life uncertainties.

The Metro Series Overview

The Metro series first began with the release of Metro 2033 in 2010. Set two decades after a devastating war, the game follows protagonist Artyom as he ventures out of the safety of the Metro to combat the ‘Dark One’ alien threat. Subsequent titles like Metro: Last Light in 2013 explored themes of guilt and redemption as Artyom forms an unlikely alliance with the very creatures he once sought to destroy.

Metro Exodus, released in 2019, expanded the game world beyond the confines of the Metro tunnels. The VR exclusive title, Metro Awakening, released in 2024, delved into a prequel narrative featuring a new protagonist, Serdar, and introduced elements of mysticism involving historical figures like Genghis Khan.
