Apple is reportedly exploring ways to enhance the telephoto capabilities of its iPhone lineup, following in the footsteps of brands like Oppo.

However, recent reports indicate that the development of this technology may take longer than anticipated.

iPhone telephoto upgrade delayed

A reputable source, Digital Chat Station, has confirmed via Weibo that “Apple is considering a 200MP periscope telephoto lens.”

The source hints at a potential delay for this upgrade, stating that it is “most likely 2028.”

Earlier reports suggested that Apple might introduce a 200MP telephoto camera in 2027 with the iPhone 19 Pro, coinciding with the 20-year anniversary of the first iPhone.

If the latest reports are accurate, the iPhone 20 Pro could see a significant zoom enhancement in 2028.

While Apple may lag behind in certain smartphone innovations, the brand is expected to excel in implementing new technologies when they eventually arrive.

In the meantime, devices like the Oppo Find X9 Pro, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and Honor Magic 8 Pro are vying for consumer attention.
